If you or anyone you know in LJ fandom writes poetry, take a look at this. A person writing under the name Ven Findlay is lifting poetry from people and getting it published. This person has directly plagiarized from at least two three of us in fandom; there are bound to be more.

Yeah. The publishers agreed to pull the book, but it's still not off of google and other google-powered sites. Also, we haven't received a copy of the book to see the rest of the poems and see who ELSE's work has been stolen (3 and counting so far, there's bound to be more - and those people should probably start locking their stuff down).

How are you finding the real authors? Googling lines of the poems or what?

Yeah, that's how I initially stumbled on all this. I googled the title of one of my old poems, and up pops a Google Books result. Imagine my surprise. Here's a bit of a timeline (http://stuttermoan.livejournal.com/37388.html) I wrote of how it went down.

I'm a prolific poet in and out of fandom and have been for years. It doesn't look like any of my poetry was stolen (unless the titles were changed on ones not visible in the preview), but MOTHERFUCKER why did this douchenozzle have to be the only other living person I have ever encountered who shares my name?? That really fucking annoys me. It better not be something I have to deal with when I publish my own book of poems. I will be FUCKING PISSED.

And I wouldn't be too sure about that, most of my poems were untitled and they just made up titles for them and published them anyway. ):

I figured it wasn't their real name.

Now what bugs me is that it seems AWFULLY coincidental that a plagiarist poet comes out with a book using my first name... and is the only real person I have ever seen using that name... when I am doing basically clean-up editing on my own book of poetry to be published soon. I don't want to sound paranoid but that kind of coincidence really makes me think there's a good possibility that even if they didn't take any of my poetry, they may have taken my name.

I'm not going to go lock down my posts with my own poetry, since... if this asswicket plagiarized them, it's not like they can plagiarize them MORE. I'm looking forward to seeing what else is in that book, though.

As far as I can tell, the book was published in 2011 - not sure if that helps or not.

Try running google searches of random lines of your poems? That's how we found like two or three of mine in bits that weren't in the preview.

Publication date doesn't really help at all. Shit, my "poetry" tag has 80 uses in THIS journal and the last public one was in 2011.

Google random lines... looks like that's what I'll have to do. -.-

Does anyone know any of the other names on the publisher's list of authors (https://sites.google.com/a/lapwingpublications.com/lapwing-store/) to recommend one? I wanted to buy one of their books as a show of support, since they're handling this nicely (which seems to happen depressingly rarely until there's a huge fuss about it when a story like this pops up in fandom circles).
