Have you tried finding out how 'obsessed' this non-famous friend is? Often that kind of constant posting can seem weird, but maybe when you talk to them it'll just be this silly thing they do to pass the time. Chances are that when you gently let them know that you're friends with the famous person, they'll be embarrassed. Because they'll understand that it was awkward for you, because they don't want their fangirling to reach the celeb, etc. My guess is they'd probably tone down their squee, at least around you. They'll stay a fan, but it wouldn't be weird. If they immediately start pumping you for info or a get-together or something, that would be weird. But most fans (or friends) aren't like that, right?

Late to the party - OP here. I'm not sure they're truly obsessed, but, non-famous friend is like a bit of a strange case. 25-year old who never had a proper relationship, who says they are looking for love, but pushing away/not actually looking people that would qualify. They KNOW I'm friends with celeb friend, and actually instead of toning it down , used this as an excuse to try and get personal info about him out of me. Which I think just added to my discomfort. And it doesn't help that non-famous friend is awkward about relationships in general either, ecause they don't really put crushes in perspective. Does that make sense?

Ah yes, welcome to the uncanny valley where "he's a quasi-fictional construct" meets "he's actually a real person." It's pretty much like once you see the dirty implications of something, you can't unsee it, except replacing "dirty implications" with "not a fictional character."

TLDR: you'll always be creeped out by it, and your friend will probably never really get why.

Do you live in Liechtenstein or what?

Not THAT small.

I used to be friendly with someone who was a lead in a sci fi with a big fandom, and I always find it so odd that people go on about this guy. My other friends who know him as well have talked about how strange it is that he's a sex symbol because he's very lovely, but not that attractive IRL. I know some other celebrities (I have family and friends in film and television) but none have the fandom of this guy. I think it when you experience that you realize quite how much celebrities are just ordinary people and honestly a lot of them are a bit dull or narcissistic.

So yes I know how you feel, it's a very odd experience, I've also had friends be a bit obsessed with people I know in real life, and it makes me feel really uncomfortable to hear it. It's an odd thing. Consequently I'm a fan of shows, but not the actors as themselves, just their work.
