OP here; I live in upstate NY on the eastern edge of Lake Ontario. Local help would be nice, but I have no way to get there, and I'm going to keep this away from my family. They have enough problems as it is without me asking them to bring me to a doctor.

When this all first started some years ago, I lost about 15 lbs in a week, and slowly lost more over time. Even though I was asleep more often than I was conscious, my family didn't bring me to a doctor. They couldn't have afforded it, and I don't think they understood how serious that was.

I can't ask them now. I know that sounds stupid and self destructive, but they have way too much to worry about.

Thank you so much for your concern, it really does help, though.

OP, as horrible as it is to put it in these terms (and I do apologize, but these are unfortunate realities you need to consider,) taking you to a doctor would be far less trouble and likely less expensive to your family than having to arrange your funeral. Have you looked into any help the Department of Human Services (or the New York equivalent, if it's called something different) might offer, or private charities, churches, pro bono clinics?

OP, if your family can't get you to a doctor, is there anyone in your community who can? It must be so hard for you, feeling so ill and so worried, and not feeling able to get the help you need. I'm so sorry.

I really hope things go well for you.

You probably already foud these but just in case you didn't. Since I'm not from the US I'm not sure how exactly this works but these to sites have abunch of Free/Charitable Clinics. I hope this might help you?

And I have to agree with anon, despite their problems I'm sure they would prefer to bring you to a doctor than maybe later feel guilty because they could've done something to help you.
