Exactly this. And as spider_rogue said above, it's a great moment to gently nudge fans of the movie toward the comics. It's totally acceptable to just like the movies (or in reverse, just like the comics) but implying that one knows EVERYTHING about a character just from the movies can feel like a slap in the face to fans of the source material.

Basically, yeah. I agree and I hope you told your friends all about Stan the Man. :)

Agreed, there are some comics/books that I love yet hate the movie adaptations, and vice versa. But generally I try to educate myself about both if it's something I'm really into. And I definitely told them a bit about our man Stan. :)
