I'm just glad they got the big ~DRAMA storyline over with fairly quickly in the show's life. I'd much rather watch "The Sherlock and John Fight Crime with the Help of Wacky Minor Characters Show" without the hiatus looming yet.

Give me one-off case eps. I don't need some giant arc where everything ties to some master criminal.

yes, this x 1000. Modern interpretations give Moriarty FAR too much stake in the over-arching story.

Meh, I'd be happy for Moriarty to stick around for 5 series since both S1 and S2 have been arc-heavy and I'm afraid they'll lose momentum if they lose that. But even if they do a villain-heavy arc each series (e.g. Moran in S3, Milverton in S4), Sherlock has already faced and beaten his most dangerous adversary.
