C'mon, this is the UK. We have a slightly weird relationship with our news media. The newspapers said that Moriarty wasn't a real criminal, therefore IT MUST BE TRUE. And even if some people had their doubts, people tend love drama and a big fall from grace more than giving much thought to critically analysing evidence, evidence which would probably leave anyone not knowing what the hell to think anyway. So why not believe what you're told?

Heh I was going to mention the way our papers can be in my original comment but thought I couldn't express it properly. Thanks anon, you've basically said what I was going to say! Our media loves to tear people down, and kick them while they're there.
