I appreciated the female character in the movie, and I mostly like the way they handled her expect for that extremely stupid scene with Loki (which almost ruined it for me, god, how forced was that), but yeah. I could have used Marvel Woman or Scarlet Witch too (they evidently have the rights to use her, as long as they don't mention her connections to the X-Men or Magneto).

And no, OP. It doesn't make you a misogynist. Female characters can be handled poorly just as male characters can be. Not liking a poorly-written or poorly-acted character should have nothing to do with gender loyalty.

I actually liked her being a little bit vulnerable and scared in that scene, and hated how they try to turn it around at the end like, she's acting she's being badass awesome, LOL! It's perfectly alright for her to be in over her head. It's not anti-feminist for a woman to be scared by the threat of having her only real connection in the world torture her to death...

Combined with the "Black Widow running from the Hulk in a scene straight out of a horror movie" scene, that would have been way too much of a vulnerability no one else in the movie displays to such a degree, so... I wouldn't have enjoyed that, personally. Being sincerely threatened by a man in a cage who's trying to goad her like a child would have undermined her credibility as someone who should be -- and is shown to be -- used to such situations.

She wasn't as threatened by Loki as she appeared. That was kind of the whole point - make him believe he was breaking her down, and use it to her advantage. (And isn't that how those situations go for her? Case in point is her opening scene in the movie - it looked like she was being totally thrown around but she was really in control.)

As for being terrified by the Hulk - I think it makes sense for her to be terrified of someone she has no power to reason with in any way. That's her strength. Sure, she can shoot a gun, but that's useless against the Hulk as well. Anyone without superhuman strength would have run from him.
