I also thought that, while it seemed that she actually outwitted Loki somewhere along the way, I couldn't shake the feeling that she actually didn't, that Loki planned on her finding out from the beginning. But maybe that's just me.
The thing is: I actually like her, especially in the scene where she was basically short-time traumatised by the Hulk - I like those strong female characters to have weaknesses and not always kick everyone else's butts.

i liked that because it made so much sense. her strengths are manipulating people and shooting, and that's enough to handle 99,5% of what she usually comes across. but she can't manipulate or shoot the hulk.

You're right, the scene with the Hulk is an excellent one, and it does help to distinguish which situations she can totally dominate and which ones are totally out of her hands. I also agree that strong female characters don't always have to kick every butt ever, but when she's the only one with that problem next to an all-male cast, it disappoints me. The Thor vs. Iron Man (and semi-vs. Captain America, too) fight scene showed that they were all equals, for example. Her fight with a fellow Avenger just showed that she couldn't deal.

Hmmm I hadn't thought of it from that angle.

I am an optimist...maybe future movies will highlight the weaknesses of some of the male characters. It goes without saying that all characters need strengths and weaknesses.

There are a lot of possibilities tbh - Tony's arrogance and overconfidence (or his suit running out of power), Bruce's lessened mental capacity when in Hulk form (and probable clumsiness as well); Cap's limited knowledge of modern society or technology and limited patience for drama or capacity for intrigue (Thor has similar issues if not exactly the same); and Hawkeye's lesser capacity for melee fighting, not to mention limited ammo.
