He isn't dead.
The actor signed a contract for 66 movies. 66.
This means he will be in every marvel movie they make. Every Thor, every Iron Man, every Captain America and so on and so forth. Up to and including 66 films.
So he isn't dead.

Even if the actor will actually appear in every single Marvel movie made for the foreseeable future, that doesn't necessarily mean the character has to be alive, you know.
Consider, for example, flashbacks and prequels, pre-death recordings, magical illusions or mechanical creations made to resemble him. They'd need Clark Gregg for any of those, and Coulson could still be dead as dead can be.

Don't get me wrong, I love the character and made an embarrassing sound during his death scene. I'm just not getting my hopes up.

Okay I realize that must have been a typo, because I just went "Wait a second a person would die of old age before making that many movies"

I never saw the source for the 6 movie deal thing either though, so...
