Maybe this dude's ugly old face should be crushed. And yes, really dead.

(Anonymous) 2012-05-19 12:00 am (UTC)(link)
Stop with this horribly awkward ugly trolling. It's embarrassing.

I'm so torn about this. On one hand, dude is signed on for more movies, so he can't be gone forever right?

On the other hand, open-eyed death scene. Come on.

(Anonymous) 2012-05-18 11:27 pm (UTC)(link)
See, I was convinced he was dead - until the stuff with the cards, and how Fury had lied about that in order to galvanise the Avengers, and then I started thinking about how we just see the medical team getting to Coulson after the open-eyed-death-scene, and then suddenly Fury tells everyone that 'they've called it' but we never actually saw them call it - I have sort of convinced myself that the medical team managed to pull him back but Fury kept up the pretence in order to galvanise the team into actually being a team and fighting for something...

I may be delusional, but I think the options are definitely there to bring him back, and reasonably so (in my mind, in this universe - I mean, Cap was a capsicle for 70 years, so in my mind anything can happen - the rules of this universe are stretchier than ours).

I'm probably delusional, to be fair, it has been said before o_0

You mean like how they signed Billy Dee Williams up to play Harvey Dent in multiple Batman movies and we still got Tommy Lee Jones as Two-Face?

As many people have pointed out in previous posts, the death wasn't Joss' idea. Also, if they want him back he'll be back. I'm pretty sure they didn't bring up Life Model Decoys in an earlier scene with Coulson for no reason.

I have never been less upset about the death of a character I love because, wow, there are so many ways he could not be dead or come back. It's Marvel and he's not Uncle Ben, death ≠ forever.

Hey, anybody remember what Whedon did to Fred? I'm guessing that it's entirely possible that they'll go with something along the lines of those Vision rumors circulating online. Because... Fred. It could really be emotionally devastating to everyone if done right, and not cheapen his death at all (even if yeah, the whole "bringing them together" thing seemed a little contrived.)

(Anonymous) 2012-05-19 12:23 am (UTC)(link)
Wow, Joss Whedon killed off a likeable and liked character and lied about it happening....if only there was some sort of precedent to this happening.

As someone mentioned above, it wasn't Whedon's idea to off Coulson. But even if it were, oblig "lolwut? Are you new?" Pretty much every cool secondary character (and at least half of every remotely-content relationship) in a Whedon work dies. Usually horribly, and always for the ~drama. Schadenfreude is the sweet, sweet nectar of his existence.

I'm so torn on this. I mean, on one hand, I love this guy and really want him to come back. On the other...his death would've been so bad-ass if that was it. No better way to go out than shooting a god in the friggin' face after he just stabbed you. I think it was the best way to have him go out.

But but BUT it's not like his death was Whedon's idea D: It was decreed by the president producer I can't recall correctly SOME OTHER GUY long ago in the stars or something.

I just want to kick myself for not seeing it coming. What with all those one-shots, the movie announcing snippets, and the Cap fanboyism just to make him extra adorbs, I really should have figured that of course they're going to kill him or use him as collateral damage to get the team rolling.

While I do think it'd be cheap to bring him back because of Fury pulling off some sentimentrolling, I would not mind at all. Son of Coul ;_;

One: Rule One: Joss is a sadistic lying liar who lies. Two: Joss actually wasn't responsible for this, it was mandated, and he even pointed out 'aw, crap, people are gonna blame me for this even though for once I'm not responsible.' Three: Avengers is a Marvel-universe movie. The only (the ONLY) death in comic book world that has stuck is Uncle Ben. Even Jason Todd and Bucky came back from the dead. There is every chance of him coming back with Fury stating 'I needed the Avengers to be avenging SOMETHING, didn't I?'

Considering he's signed on for more Marvel movies (of which I'm pretty sure the next one is IM3) I'd say Fury was a total shit. isn't there an interview where they say the whole point of the scene with the cards was to show how good a liar Fury is?

And I can't cite the source but there was an interview floating around from Whedon and the actor who both confirm he's not dead.

I just...didn't get that upset. I liked Coulson. He was a lot of fun and I'd have liked him to live, but I just have never gotten that attached to him. So, if he comes back then great. If not, I won't particularly miss him.

[identity profile] dinerstate.livejournal.com 2012-05-19 02:25 am (UTC)(link)
See, that's the thing-- I don't WANT him to be dead, but I also don't want him to be alive by some stupid asspull, because then it just wouldn't mean anything any more because if Coulson lives then nobody should really stay dead.

Honestly though, I saw his death coming, but it was still super upsetting. \: (Btw, I reeeeeally want a poster and/or action figure!!)

Prevailing theory on it seems to point to him becoming Vision (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vision_%28Marvel_Comics%29). Which I support because of reasons.

Awesome, awesome reasons.

WHEDON ALWAYS LIES

I just saw it again tonight. SON OF COUL. PORQUE. If it doesn't get turned around somehow, I will actually never stop being sad about it (we're finally at a point where the heroes are dealing with SHIELD all the time, this should have been the starting point to him becoming A BIGGER CHARACTER for fuck's sake! A living thread of continuity through this series, cut down when he's finally in position to get a lot more to do. MY HEART). At least Joss is moving up from the Serenity-type deaths; in which the whole rest of the movie would have gone JUST THE SAME if the character had lived but they just had to toss it in there simply to make us cry. Coulson's death at least had an effect on the story, and a big one. As a direct result, the team solidified. He went out like a boss and is remembered a hero

and if I go to the fic memes right now and request "Coulson wakes up in a coffin BECAUSE HE'S FUCKING IMMORTAL" fic, that's my business!

He isn't dead.
The actor signed a contract for 66 movies. 66.
This means he will be in every marvel movie they make. Every Thor, every Iron Man, every Captain America and so on and so forth. Up to and including 66 films.
So he isn't dead.

JOSS WHEDON LIED ABOUT A CHARACTER DEATH?!

HOLY SHIT NO WAI

[identity profile] arcadiaego.livejournal.com 2012-05-19 09:41 pm (UTC)(link)
I think he really is, sadly. I mean, I know there's always ways of bringing people back but I just don't know that there would be a reason? (Other than his fandom popularity but is that enough to warrant going back on it?) I know people are saying he's signed up for a certain number of movies, but people always say that. I think the other actors are all signed up for like six individually and that's probably not going to happen.
