The way I look at it, if you need a John to your Sherlock, you're essentially needing someone that will care about you, and support you, and most of all believe in you when you need it!
This is coming from one Sherlock to someone's John to another. It's totally fine to "be" Sherlock! ♥
(In fact, I'd go so far as to show off my extreme addiction to this show and say -- "It's all fine.")

Yeah...this is what depresses me. Of course everyone would love someone like that in their life and I'm sure lots of people have it but - I don't. I never have. And the more I watch the show I start to get more cynical about the fact that it's possible, at least for me, to ever have a friend who was as loyal and devoted as John is. People put up with a lot from being friends with me just because of how reclusive I can be and not engage my brain before opening my mouth (like Sherlock a bit) so I understand why people give up, get sick or get bored of me.
So I find myself fantasizing more about what it's like to have a best friend like that more than I do say having a romantic partner.
Sorry, felt like sharing. Cry maor, Anon, forever alone etc etc.

(Anonymous) 2012-05-19 07:59 pm (UTC)(link)I'm the John to someone's Sherlock, so I can say the flip side of this is equally shitty. Being devoted to your Sherlock 'sucks', because the work will always come first. I know my Sherlock loves me, but I'll never matter as much to him as he matters to me. Like, I know I"m important to him in the same way John is to Sherlock - I know I'm essential - but goddamn, sometimes (frequently) I feel completely unnecessary in his life. Like, what the fuck am I there for aside to throw in the occasional, "Amazing! Brilliant!" (metaphorically speaking).
So yeah, I get you on the 'cry moar'. I'm there myself.
