I hear you. Twilight is fun, guilty-pleasure reading. I really enjoyed them, and when I was at a very low place in my life and burned out on grad work, Twilight gave me something fun and cracky to enjoy. There's no problem with enjoying low-brow books, even with problematic content -- but you really have to be aware of the problematic content, too, you know?

But your last paragraph: THIS, so hard. It's one thing to not read books because of reviews/opinions/etc (I'm that way with the DaVinci Code). However, hating a book you've never read is something else.
