Why do you think that is?

(Anonymous) 2012-05-20 04:52 pm (UTC)(link)
Not that anon, but its pretty obvious. Thousands of years ago women were the ones who took care of the children, gathered berries and grasses, and took care of the home. Men hunted, protected the women, and made sure they where having babies. Now in the present we still have that hunter gatherer mindset that makes us be picky on a mate by how they can provide for us, a woman who is "sexy" in the traditional way is more fertile and therefore can have more children. A man who has a lot in the bank can sustain a family and protect it if they have some sort of financial crisis, and women want that.

There have been recent studies that show women care about a man's resources less in societies where they have better opportunities to earn their own money. There is even evidence that whether men prefer women to be more skinny or plump depends on the economic climate. What is desirable to either sex is not set in stone but rather changes to adapt to the situation.

Also, we're speaking in generalizations. Everyone is different and wants different things, and we're all free to be attracted to or reject each other for any reason we please.

It's interesting that you're so sure about gender roles in prehistory. Do you believe that the reason women are attracted to the colour pink is because berries are pink and cavewomen picked berries?

lol, that one really cracked me up considering pink was considered the boys' color and blue was the girls' color up until the 20th century.
