Seconding what nyxelestia asked; I'd love to know where you're hanging out as I've really only explored the movieverse but I really want to be involved in fandom. I just get nervous about venturing in because I didn't read comic books as a kid and I'm not familiar with the original canon.

And this is why comic fandom has a hard time growing. People putting the fear of god into folks and saying comic fans will rip them apart before they even enter into things.

Yes, there are some snobs, but most comic fans LIKE new people to read comics. We're geeks! We love comics and want to share our enthusiasm for the medium with others.

And from a selfish side, we've watched what happens when not enough people read releases. Things get more expensive, good titles get cancelled, and we have to watch horrendous things like the DCnU get created in order to "appeal to a new audience".
