Because it's usually done in a respectful manner, and done in the pointing out of "if you like ABC point about the movie, you might want to read XYZ comic". It's rarely 500 people descending on a single newbie (except for the newbies that ask), just one or two people virtually going up to the really enthusiastic movieverse fan and telling them about the wonderful world of Disney that they could get involved in. Might be a different 1-2 people each time, but it's not hoards.

It's no different than people recommending books that are similar in nature to another book (for instance, I had tons of people recommend the Game of Thrones series based on the fact that I was a massive, massive Tolkien fan).

I've watched people rec the Ultimates universe, modern 616 (the main Marvel universe), Marvel Adventures, or Golden Age (30s-50s) stuff based on what parts of the movie they liked. Not sure how much you know of Marvel, but all three are drastically different. Ultimates is violent and angry, 616 is...a lot of things, Marvel Adventures is a bunch of self-contained stories instead of sprawling 40-year sagas, and the old comics are often corny and just plain fun.
