If I'm right about who you are, then a lot of us missed you.

And if I'm right about who you are, I'm so sorry I haven't recognized your 'new face'.

I'm really curious here... What, so to speak, gives the OP away? Do you see a clue in the background image, or is something else?

Then again, maybe it's something super-obvious for those in the actual fandom -- the stuff I'm into have a sad tendency to be obscure/rare to the extreme ;_;

(Anonymous) 2012-05-22 11:36 pm (UTC)(link)
It's the timelines. How long they've been writing fic, the length of time they've been away.

That, and taking on a new pseudonym/identity wouldn't be completely unlike them. They had two separate 'identities' back when they were around. Long story, really, but point stands.

I can't be sure though, hence the proliferation of 'ifs'.

What fandom is it at least? I have the habit of getting into really old fic and then being bummed when the author hasn't done anything for years. Kind of curious if this is somebody I've read.

(Anonymous) 2012-05-23 12:17 am (UTC)(link)
I don't think it's unreasonable of you to miss the attention. Give it time, I suppose?

[identity profile] hooves.livejournal.com 2012-05-23 12:29 am (UTC)(link)
I don't know who you are, OP, but i know what you mean. Sadly if you establish yourself in a fandom, people recognize your name, and probably have you on alert who don't normally check the fandom page.

I know I tend to read things by people I already know so I miss a lot of "new faces" even in smaller fandoms.

That said, I did join a bigger fandom but the pairing I chose to write is, er, kind of quiet. Oh well.

I think I'm still sort of adjusting to not getting any (or few) reviews after years in bigger fandoms as a newbie writer. It's really tough to realize that when you had fun and wrote badly, you got tons of reviews (50+ a chapter sometimes), now that you try really hard to be good and write well, you get 1-4 reviews at best. LMAO.

BNF makes me think of a sandwich.

[identity profile] cure-light.livejournal.com 2012-05-23 01:12 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I don't even know what that would be, but it sounds pretty delicious.

D:

Those are three things that should never be combined. DX

My stomach is curling just by reading that.

;D

[identity profile] cure-light.livejournal.com 2012-05-23 05:06 am (UTC)(link)
Sounds gross... but hey, I'd try anything once. You never know when something's going to be surprisingly awesome.

Banana, Nutella and (Marshmallow) Fluff!

[identity profile] anonlulz.livejournal.com 2012-05-23 10:01 pm (UTC)(link)
Marshmallow Fluff? Is there any other redundant food out there that I'm not aware of?

[identity profile] nomorefrostbite.livejournal.com 2012-05-23 12:45 am (UTC)(link)
The rabid Sherlock stans are so precious about their show that sometimes it's difficult not to stan for Elementary just on principle.

I admit, crap reason is crap!

[identity profile] barnabys-bane.livejournal.com 2012-05-23 01:31 am (UTC)(link)
That sucks, OP. I can understand missing the attention because you're used to a certain dynamic for fandom, and it's just not there anymore. I can't really give you any advice for it except to maybe give it time. However, be prepared for the very real possibility that you will never get the attention you had before because the fandom has likely changed since you last were active. Also, I (like many other people, I'm sure) will hang onto hope that an author who has fallen away will come back, but I look for the pseudonym I'm familiar with. I may not be looking for what you're writing about anymore unless it's under your original name.

[identity profile] velvet-mace.livejournal.com 2012-05-23 01:35 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, you don't get to drop into a fandom and get instant recognition under a new name. You'll catch on again. Maybe you just need to work on punching up your summaries. Maybe you need to disinhibit your id side a bit and be willing to let your fic be fun instead of worrying about it being good.

(Anonymous) 2012-05-23 03:57 pm (UTC)(link)
Boo freaking hoo, get over yourself and join the rest of us 'nobodies' in fandom.

This sounds like the sort of secret I'd write...except I think I'd come back and write under my old name.

Though I did write under a pseudonym once. That backfired in some aspects of fandom, but I had my reasons for doing it. Were I to do it again, I would, but I'd change some things of the way I handled it.

My advice? Write under your old name, or at least acknowledge who you are.

(Anonymous) 2012-05-23 07:21 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm in a similar situation, OP. I feel sad that no one seems to be reading my fics since back in the day I had a good number of people reading my fics, but at the same time, I feel like there is less pressure for me to write for others so I feel happy that I am just writing what I want without any expectations,
