STOP WOOBIFYING VILLAINS.

Megatron is a homicidal, genocidal dictator intent on enslaving Earth. A hug and an OC to bang is not going to make him a good guy.

You are wrong. Megatron in the movies was a unique Megatron. Read the novel which is brilliantly crafted from the script of the film, it fills in the plot holes that the movie had in it. Megatron WAS actually sick, he was in pain and he had memory loss as well. Not to mention that before he had been under the control of The Fallen which once that control was released, Megatron started to tire of the war. Over time he CHANGED. There was no OC to fuck, no fan fiction. It is canon, it is there. The movie faces and the film designs were so overloaded with micro expressions that most people were dumb enough to not notice because they were either going off at how dumb the film was or drooling at the action sequences. There are OBVIOUS times where you see pain on Optimus' face, anger when he kills Megatron in the final fight, and sadness when he realizes everything that Sentinel did.

He attempted to blow up the earth, why? He was under the Fallen's control. And when he got shot in the face by his own weapon, part of his mind and memory was lost so the part about invading earth was still locked in his mind. Then in Dark of the Moon he started to see the error of his ways, he thought that if he could trick Optimus into bringing Sentinel back that he could return to Cybertron so he could rebuild it. And he and Sentinel went about the wrong way to do so, destroying Chicago. The line "I just want to be back in charge" was him saying he wanted to become Lord High Protector again, and instead of destroying more which got him no where, he wanted to build and create to see if it would bring him peace.

Movie Megatron was NOT always a homicidal, genocidal dictator intent on enslaving Earth. He originally protected Cybertron, then he was taken over by The Fallen, manipulated into thinking Optimus wanted to take his position from him and take over the Allspark. Then the war began. And under the mind control of the Fallen he was homicidal, genocidal, and wanted to enslave Earth or destroy it pending on his master's orders.

This picture wasn't "Woobifying villains", it was stating the character arc and how he was sad and in pain in that scene and in the canon books. Sorry that you are too blind to see it, but this Megatron is different than the Megatron's of the past, he has emotions. He has expressions of those emotions written all over his face. Just like you can tell when Bumblebee or Optimus are sad or angry, Megatron is just a bit more subdued, trying to hide it because the ones he surrounds himself with would think him weak.

I'm sorry, all I saw was WOOBIE WOOBIE WOO.

(Anonymous) 2012-05-23 02:27 am (UTC)(link)
Yep.

[identity profile] seiberwing.livejournal.com 2012-05-23 02:26 am (UTC)(link)
they were either going off at how dumb the film was or drooling at the action sequences.

Or because everyone was too damned crowded, fast moving, and full of fiddly bits for me to see what the fuck was going on. It's really a shame because in the few shots where we have the luxury of looking at them moving for extended periods outside of combat, some of the designs are quite beautiful. Big fan of Laserbeak myself.

(Anonymous) 2012-05-23 02:26 am (UTC)(link)
That only works if you ignore every evil thing he's done, like kill hundreds of people and Autobots and try to blow up Earth.

So just keep on keeping on with your woobifying self.

(Anonymous) 2012-05-23 03:52 am (UTC)(link)
Are you really trying to say that Megatron was an innocent who was completely mind-controlled into doing bad stuff by The Fallen?

(Anonymous) 2012-05-23 12:25 am (UTC)(link)
Huh. I think it looks like he's grinning in that shot.

[identity profile] captain-emily.livejournal.com 2012-05-23 12:25 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah...I'm a little too hung up on that whole "trying to blow up the planet" thing in RotF to feel sorry for Megatron.

(Anonymous) 2012-05-23 12:41 am (UTC)(link)
Wow, you really managed to miss the entire plot of the movies.

Is the future of our race not worth a single human life?

You'll never stop at one.

(Anonymous) 2012-05-23 12:56 am (UTC)(link)
Read the comics that tie in with the movies, read the books to fill in the gigantic plot holes, tie everything together. All of them had emotions. Even Megatron once the Fallen's control was over.

[identity profile] seiberwing.livejournal.com 2012-05-23 01:24 am (UTC)(link)
Look, I love Earth and all, but let's look at this from their perspective.

His species is dying. Near dead. The planet all but lost. Meanwhile, that dick Optimus is going around killing every shot he has at restoring his planet, for the sake of an alien race that spends most of its time trying to torture or kill members of his species. There's pathos, it's just Bay didn't mean for it to be there.

[identity profile] insanenoodlyguy.livejournal.com 2012-05-23 01:55 am (UTC)(link)
Are you implying the decepticons were any better? Because they weren't. At all. The planet needed restoring for a reason.

[identity profile] seiberwing.livejournal.com 2012-05-23 02:24 am (UTC)(link)
Basically I'm implying that everyone in this series is a douchebag of one flavor or another. Megatron's just the interesting one.

(Anonymous) 2012-05-23 02:32 am (UTC)(link)
But if you point out that the planet was dying because of the war started by the Decepticons then you can't woobify Megatron.

[identity profile] insanenoodlyguy.livejournal.com 2012-05-23 02:44 am (UTC)(link)
Well, somebody above blames the Fallen. Ugh. Like there weren't enough things wrong with his movie incarnation.

I mean, why is he not on fire? Forget all this megatron woobie crap, that's what I'm mad about. This is what the fallen is supposed to look like:

Image

The six year old in my assures everybody a ROBOT ALWAYS ON FIRE is awesome. What did we get? Weird vaguely egyptian looking piece of shit.

Who sits on his robot space couch doing nothing for most of the movie. He's like the evil robot version of my grandmother.

This.

I'm totally not for woobifying the guy. He's a monster. But he's a monster who began with an understandable premise: protect his people. It got twisted by crazy into "Destroy others for the sake of protecting my people." That should not be woobified.

But it is (or can be, in the hands of actual good writers) more than just "LOL BAD GUY SEE."

I really wish the movies had done more with it. There was this one line in the third movie where he's like "Finally, our world is saved" or something, and I loved it and really wanted more to it than that.

Not because I want him to be less of a monster, but because it gave him more complexity than just RAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAR BAD IS ME.

[identity profile] seiberwing.livejournal.com 2012-05-23 01:27 am (UTC)(link)
I felt like he was the only really sympathetic character in the entire film. He was beaten and broken down to nothing, living in the middle of AllAfricaLooksTheSameToBay, Africa, and all but a handful of his people are dead. Due in large part to his own megalomaniacal tendencies he's lost everything and at this point just wants his home planet back.

When Megatron is the only sympathetic character in your Transformers movie, you have done something very wrong.

Pretty much this. And I LIKE Megatron. (Well, not so much this one. They kind of... I don't even know where they were going with him. Uuuuurg.)

[identity profile] seiberwing.livejournal.com 2012-05-23 03:06 am (UTC)(link)
I know there's a lot of stuff going on in the supplementary comics buuuut I could really care less, so I just look at the movies themselves. Which never seem to know where they're going besides explosions and fanservice.

[identity profile] fierceawakening.livejournal.com 2012-05-23 03:08 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah. I know a little about them, but not too much. I've seen excerpts but not the whole thing.

(Anonymous) 2012-05-23 05:30 am (UTC)(link)
The comic books tie certain things together, but it's the novelizations that really fill in the plot holes.

(Anonymous) 2012-05-24 01:39 pm (UTC)(link)
Where the hell is the face? All I see is like, car parts.
