...and... still doing openmindedness wrong. It's about accepting that other people have different value systems than yours even if you don't like it, rather than transferring your condemnation for them onto their culture instead.

Also, if you're getting your cues on social issues from on fanfiction... doing that wrong, too. I know a lot of people play around with those things to great effect in fandom, but then, we also produce tentacle rape stories and chibi fanart. Best to keep things in perspective.

op said fandom, not fanfiction, just sayin. Im pretty sure they meant all things involved, including things like fandom friends. Besides, there's nothing wrong with seeing issues in fanfiction and then taking initiative to learn more about them on your own.
