I agree with your sister. For some reason, Loki-without-helmet = "meh", whereas Loki-with-helmet = "OMG SO PRETTY." I'm not sure why. It just suits him really well?

Eyebrows, maybe? Hiddleston didn't have his eyebrows darkened in The Avengers, which made him look odd with the black hair - compare to in Thor, where they had been darkened and he was so terribly pretty.

My sister claims it's because it hides his hair in Thor (she was sad that the illusion!helmet (which wasn't as pretty) didn't hide his hair in The Avengers). It's probably more that the contours just complement his face well. Or something.
