I think the biggest difference is how sycophantic they are. The Nice Guy has his target of choice on a pedestal, or at least acts as such while seething internally (or even subconsciously). His opinions are the same or at least supportive, but find something she doesn't like and watch all that repressed venom seep out!

Whereas a real friend will never hesitate to call you on bullshit or disagree with you on something.

Which incidentally is how their behavior ensures their friend-zoning: who the hell wants to date a parrot? (Fuck you Furries, stay out of this)
