Agreed. It could be done as an interesting POV type of thing, but not in the "this is how all men think/flock to me because of my magical powers of manliness" way that I've seen.

I think if I saw a dude actually engaging in this behavior I would have to pick myself up off the floor from laughing so hard before I could set him straight.

nayrt

If laughs are what you want, here's one that was in mgs fandom a while back. This secret made me instantly think of him http://mgs-slash.livejournal.com/454504.html

His constant random railing against radical feminists is so weirdly out of place idek

ayrt

I don't think that's the person the secret poster meant since people were calling that guy out left and right, but that's who the secret instantly reminded me of.

Yuuuuuuuuuuuuuup

(Anonymous) 2012-05-26 01:37 am (UTC)(link)
That was pretty great.

technophile just got ten times awesomer in my eyes.

since people were calling that guy out left and right

wait, where? I just skimmed the comments and they were mostly positive

Is-- is he honestly arguing that "slash" can, by definition, include pretty much any same-gender relationship? Even platonic bromance? *Sideeyes* Then I have an awesome femmeslash movie for him to see. Totes hot. May have heard of it. It's called "Themla & Louise"... *Facepalm*

Also his definition of manly-man=grunting jock is reeeeaaaally limited to a particular time and place. This "masculine ideal" of a moronic muscle-man is really recent, and so far as I can tell from here, really a very US-centric viewpoint. And I really resent him trying to claim that paying intellectual capabilities any mind as a very recent (historically speaking) innovation because that is complete bullshit. Even the Vikings valued intelligence and wisdom very highly, and would consider such a better leadership quality than the ability to bash multiple people's heads in at once. Not that they sneered at that, but intelligence and wisdom were valued above it. And in mainland Europe and England, valuing intelligence as or more highly than physical prowess is what allowed so many women to come to prominence during the 18th century despite still basically being legal non-entities. Even a generation or two ago (depending on your age), while physical prowess wasn't anything to be sneered at, it wouldn't get you a job in management or the government. There was a time, not too long ago, even in US history, when we expected our leaders to be intelligent, calm, rational men of reason, not some lowest-common-denominator moronic bully.

--Dude, seriously? Slash != M/M or F/F sex?! *Facepalm* And that's okay, because... Apollo? o.=

OMG yes. Honestly, when I see fans rage over these douches and make it seem like they're dangerous tools of the patriarchy I always get uncomfortable because I literally cannot take them seriously enough to rage. It's just...so utterly ridiculous it feels like yelling at a 12-year-old playing king of the mountain or something.

Like... the Gaston of fandom?
