If you're not: you act like all shipping is is a popularity contest among fans. I.e., if you want people to think you're not obsessive, you shouldn't just plain act not obsessive, you should also stay far away from the people the rest of the fandom does including not liking the things they like even if you do like them. That sounds very high school.
However.
Shipping is not a popularity contest. No one 'wins' for shipping the canon ship, the most popular ship, the least popular ship, being the first to write/draw a ship, not throwing in with the same shippers the rest of the fandom side-eyes. Shipping is supporting a particular pairing (or OT3, or more) because you think they'd be interesting in a relationship. Harmonians (and SasuNaru, and the wars in the Avatar fandom, and so on) are the outliers. Most shippers of those pairings are not like that. The ones that are are just very...vocal.
I know I ship some couples in some fandoms full of people who take it Too Far (Remus/Sirius, for one). And guess what? I do not care. I give zero fucks. I like seeing the couple paired in fandom, so I will read them and write them and look at fluffy art of them and it doesn't for an instant make me associated with Puppyshippers who yelled about the sixth book and Remus/Tonks.
And not give a flying fuck about whether or not it makes me 'better' to ship something else instead because that's so stupidly arbitrary that I can't help but think anyone who does that is indeed Doing Fandom Wrong.

...which is pretty much my least favorite pairing from the first fandom I was really ever in. One of the only ones I really dislike.
there's some really good art out there for it though
