I don't think she meant for him to kill himself, she was just trying to regain control of the situation.

Oh, I agree that she didn't intend to drive him to suicide, but she definitely didn't handle the situation well. Shaming someone who was considered to be mentally unstable in front of the people he considered to be his friends wasn't exactly a good idea, even if I can see that she was only trying to get some control over the situation.

But as I was saying to childings, I am mostly just talking about the movie here; it's been wayyy too long since I read the book (reading a quote does make me want to pick it up again though!).
