I think you kinda missed the point on some of these things. Like the less-than-perfect ending? Katniss went through shit, her being just fine and dandy after all that is a ridiculous notion. What did you want, something like the Harry Potter epilogue?

Seriously, though, everyone seems to just hate epilogues, those poor authors can do noting to please you guys.

For me, after Prim died the entire series felt so pointless. Katniss went through hell for her. The events of the series are all the result of Katniss being willing to die for her sister, only to loose her anyway. And honestly? I think that's part of what makes this series so good. I know JK Rowling killed off a ton of characters at the end of Harry Potter to give us the feel of the loss in war, but Prim's death honestly was more powerful than those other deaths in conveying that. The problem is Collins did too good a job writing about war and PTSD, and those subjects are god damn depressing, which is why so many people don't like the last two books, they're just not enjoyable because they're so damn emotionally draining and intense.

But literature isn't always supposed to coddle you and make you feel better, sometimes it's supposed to hurt and be a bitch to deal with. We can't just label all the things that don't make us happy "bad" and deem then unworthy of our time. That's a very closed-minded way to deal with the world and literature and it isn't making you any smarter.

(Also, I would like to note I like Harry Potter, it really does sound like I'm ragging on it, aren't I?)

Or maybe some people don't like the last two books because the writing quality went downhill. Don't presume that we just can't handle it because it's too sad.

I love ASOIAF. I'm totally fine with sad.

This. I liked the books but, seriously, it's not like they're flawless. Condescending much?

Hey now, don't put words into other people's keyboards. I dislike it not because I think the portrayal of PTSD is "too good" but because I think she focuses so much on showing us how much PTSD sucks that she doesn't have a character any more, only a lesson-vehicle.

I would be okay with the portrayal of PTSD if she'd balanced it out with glimmers of a likeable character. Instead it sometimes really reads to me as an endless list of the symptoms.
