You clearly didn't understand the books. If you think Katniss lost her spine, you lack reading comprehension and if you think she should have picked Gale, you completely missed the point of the series. She chose life and love over hate and violence. She chose to notice the rare moments in which people are good and do good things rather than cause more death and pain.

Did you forget that Gale killed her sister? You really wanted to see her end up with him?

OP said nothing about Gale. Not picking Peeta doesn't mean she'd automatically pick Gale. She could be single or end up with someone else.

Honestly I'd have been happier with the last book had she ended up single and i'm a huge fan of love and romance, but there wasn't any of that in there... so...
