I agree with the kid part of the epilogue - one of my friends LOATHES it and calls it "babies ever after", but this is hardly 'Breeder Fantasy Land' here. She's about, what, thirty when she has kids with Peeta? And throughout the series it's shown she does have a very strong maternal instinct. Look at her interactions with Prim, with Rue, with pretty much every character younger than she is. Her protest about having children is never about the children part of it - it's about bringing them into the crazy fucked-up world live in. Given that they changed the world I can very easily see her actually wanting to have children, and it was one of the few times a protagonist ended the series with kids that made sense to me.

Personally I'm not against her having kids or the purpose of the end, I hated the epilogue because it felt so rushed and tacked on. Like a short summary? Or maybe they way it was written? I think Katniss would be a great mum but URGH THAT ENDING with the 2 children running around, the way it was phrased/paced. FFfffff. Whiplash episode trope in a book perhaps? idk
But personally I had nothing against Katniss deciding to have children later on down the line because she was a) safer and b) presumably no longer a teenager c) god I hope one was named after Rue.
