Help with style/layout?

Anyone have tips for layouts? I've seen some tutorials for custom layouts, but I fail bigtime at CSS.

Right now I have the "Dreamer" style - but I'm not too happy with it. It just feels clunky. I just want a streamlined look with no space between the entries and overall feeling of simplicity. I was using Minimalism (Randomness) over at LJ and liked it alright. It wasn't perfect, but I like it better than any of the ones I've seen here.

If you want another example of LJ layouts on DW, you can check my journal, if you like! I have my old Mixit layout there.
