They didn't really show Thor being favored though. By his friends, maybe, but I thought Thor was pretty good about showing that Odin and Frigga both loved Loki like a son and he was just making up some crackerjack explanation for why he wanted to be evil and such. There was definite jealousy of Thor going on, but I don't think it had much actual basis.

Personal opinion, of course. I just didn't see it.

Yeah, seconding this. People have claimed that the "only one can be king" thing is being cruel, but that's kind of the truth.

And while Thor's friends can be a little rude, I felt like that was more "Thor, your baby brother's trying to hang out with us again" then actual hatred.

Then you have Odin and Frigga who really do care for them both, even if Odin kind of fails at it. I mean, can anyone who watched the movie honestly say that Frigga played favorites/didn't love Loki?

I agree that Odin and Frigga loved him, but I think Odin failed to provide Loki with a sense of security. If your child is that insecure and desperate for your approval, then I think there were flaws in your parenting. It may be due to Odin relating more to Thor than Loki, which could come across as favoritism. Still, whether or not the favoritism existed doesn't matter. Loki genuinely believes he was considered second to Thor by everyone. He wants to be his brother's equal, and that desire is the driving force behind his actions. Loki wants to prove his worth, obtain something he can call his own. So, I have to disagree with your "crackerjack explanation" statement. Loki is not villainous for the sake of being evil.

Also, in the comics, the favoritism is more blatant and usually due to Loki's intellect and preference for magic and cunning rather than brute strength and stereotypical courage. So, I suppose that knowledge affects how I view the movie.
