While I love Kenneth Brannagh to death, as a theatre kid and a film fan, I don't think he was right to direct Thor. That's not in his style repertoire, and it left me feeling pretty underwhelmed with the whole movie, especially with how Loki was handled. (Loki was never my favorite Marvel character to begin with.)

That said though, I really feel like both Whedon and Hiddleston stepped up to bat with Avengers and created one heck of a villain. Still not my favorite villain ever just by nature of the character, but very snide and conniving and disgusting in a fantastic way and I really liked Hiddles in that role. I've never seen him in anything before, but I'd like to expand my knowledge of his work.

That said, even though I'm not into the people that fandom usually goes big for, I can see why they'd choose Loki. I still feel like he's a relatively weak character, but again to each their own.

Just out of curiosity, what director/what kind of style would you have pictured for Thor? (I love what Branagh did partially because I just enjoyed it a lot, but also very much because a friend recently reminded me of just how ridiculous that movie could have been in the hands of someone who wasn't taking it 100% Shakespeare-seriously)

Now that you ask who, exactly, I'm not sure. I'll have to think about that. I would certainly keep the same style, though, because it's consistent with the rest of the Marvelverse. I think the style would have kept with most other directors. Except like Michael Bay or M. Night.

Branagh just doesn't direct big flashy action like that, and I think the technical aspects tripped him up a little bit. What generally bothered me was the camera work and stuff like that. Then again, I didn't read a hell of a lot of Thor and he may have been mimicking the style of the comic book. It could be very true to the source. I actually didn't think about that until just now. I really do appreciate the Shakespeare-level seriousness of the characters, though. I totally agree with that.

....ya know you're right, I didn't notice until I rewatched it recently but the cameras were very........tilty. Especially in Asgard. ESPECIALLY shooting Loki. Though that actually could have been a comics-mimicking style choice for sure (I haven't read all that much Thor outside of The Avengers, tbh)
