That's exactly the kind of character that fandom is kind of consistent in obsessing over though. You name a character in fandom who is cowardly, whiny, mean-spirited, etc. and if they're male, they're probably among the most popular characters in the canon (and usually fandom goes on about how they're the deepest and most complex of the cast as well or gets angry when it turns out that's not the case).
