I saw them in NYC XD They're awesome. Though I'm not like. A rabid fan. The concert was hilarious though. Everyone and their mom (literally) was screaming "PETE PEEETTE". I had no idea who he was so I felt a little strange.

[identity profile] lapifors.livejournal.com 2007-07-18 09:47 pm (UTC)(link)
1. Yeah, me too. I like my PlayStation more than I like most people in general :(

11. Haha, sneaky! I met my best male friend in fandom... so I tend to assign genders to people randomly if they're unconfirmed to me, rather than assuming everyone is a girl. Although I'm usually wrong anyway -.-

13. The Harry Potter fandom is insane. Often unbearably so. I'm sorry it killed your love for the series :( that sucks.

22. For me it's a matter of "love the characters, hate the arc." Especially because the second half of Hidan and Kakuzu's arc features none of the things that made them entertaining characters in the first half.

Agreed. I am kind of a slash whore most of the time, but Nami and Vivi are my heroes.

15 -- I don't watch it but I'm pretty sure the fact that he's abrasive is House's charm. And come on, the science on television is almost never accurate.

(Anonymous) 2007-07-18 10:06 pm (UTC)(link)
I know that TV science is often not entirely true (sometimes even Mythbusters make grave mistakes; they're pretty good about their science) but to my friends it seems like a selling point. "You like Science! Here watch this Medical Show!"

People seem to not understand that I don't like Abrasive characters either. fsflskjflaiejtlskdfASSHOLElasfjlskdfj D: (At least he's just a TV character, I can live with that, as long as I don't watch.)

15. So long as you're not bashing the people who like it, I can respect your opinion. :) As far as why I love it, however, I think that so long as viewers can suspend their disbelief about a lack of realism (I mean, if you're talking about faulty science, talk about CSI), and take all the medical mystery at face value, it's still very enjoyable for those of us who don't have more than a normal person's understanding of how diagnosing an illness works.

And as far as House? Yeah, he's a real asshole, but I think his appeal is that he's a brilliant asshole who tells off a lot of people and points out a lot of things that normal people wish they could bash, and he's funny about it, if sometimes (okay, a lot of the time) cruel. Of course, he isn't a hero because of that, and it's his obvious faults and secret vulnerability that make him forgivable, I think.

So there, your friendly explanation. XD;

[identity profile] pretentioustfu.livejournal.com 2007-07-19 12:46 am (UTC)(link)
Quote:

I can like characters like House (and like Wolfwood and Ando too) because they're not real *and* because it's pretty obvious that the being a total asshole, while it may be part of their "charm" in some ways, it's not what makes them interesting. What makes them interesting is the "why" of their being assholes, and all of the other parts of their personality aside from that, and how they live with themselves.

Why does House treat everyone else like dirt? Since he was treated like dirt as a kid and he's in horrible pain and likely has a mental illness, it's pretty understandable he'd react in some way. Why does Ando call Nikki a bitch for not performing for him? He's lived his entire life in a cultural milieu where women are devalued and where this kind of behavior toward, especially, a gaijin woman is seen as absolutely OK, and as the series goes on, IMO the subtext makes it pretty clear he has issues with relationships with women due to either his cultural mores or his sexual preference, since he seems to be a lot more in love with Hiro than with any of the women he's seen.

5. I though carrying her around in the third dungeon was an interesting mechanic. She can't die, and always shows up again if you happen to accidently lose her, so it worked just fine for me! I could only see people being justifiably angry with her is if she behaved like a typical escort; that is, if she had a life meter and liked to wander off instead of patiently sitting there XD

I felt bad about not being able to unfreeze Zora's Domain, too :( Same with those poor Gorons in Majora's Mask! Breaks my heart, it does.

12. Who are they? I'm trying to think of what "FOB" might stand for but I'm drawing a blank, and it's prolly something real obvious, too XD; Either way, even if I don't know them, the hate makes me sad! Any sort of inter-fandom hate makes me sad! I'd rather see fans unite than be split apart over somethin' weird like how long people have been involved in the fandom versus newcomers and such.

::kiss::

it bothers me how House is thought to be so funny and so brilliant when he is a verbal bully. physical bullies are loathed and despised in our society but verbal bullies are thought to be funny, witty and charming.

he says stuff that, in real life, people would punch his lights out over for his attitude.

12. I know EXACTLY what you mean. I haven't been their fan for zomfgforever but I did become a fan a little before Infinity on High was released. And I don't care about Pete Wentz. I love Andy, Joe, and Patrick. I'm not as keen on their new sound, but it's still pretty cool and I still have Infinity on High in my CD player.

[identity profile] some-kat.livejournal.com 2007-07-18 10:23 pm (UTC)(link)
I'll admit, Pete's a smart guy for how he's marketing, but Patrick's the one I pay attention to when I think about the band members...which admittedly isn't often. I still haven't heard Infinity on High. Is it really worth it? D:

[identity profile] melime.livejournal.com 2007-07-18 10:13 pm (UTC)(link)
10. Tell me about it. I joined a Luke Skywalker and Darth Vader mailing list for to purpose of finding more dark!Luke Skywalker fic, but they call themselves the "Luke/Vader writers" and it CREEPS ME OUT. That's not what the list is about at all, and surely they must realize what a slash symbolizes in the majority of fandom, right? Or are they really that naive? I just want to say something. CHANGE UR NAME PLZ; IT'S GIVING ME THE WILLIES. XD I feel kind of like a giant perv being on this mailing list, even though it's actually completely innocent. XD

20. That's supposed to be a penis? It looks like... a rattlesnake tail or something. My first thought was "wtf, it's rattlesnake man!"
