Sounds a little like straight privilege. It's super not important to people who don't have to deal with the issue but for the rest of us? It's not about wanting "labels" it's about knowing we're going to be labelled if we don't continually censor our words and behavior and trying to take ownership of it.

You're assuming I identify as straight.

Why I said it "sounds straight". I've definitely encountered your attitude in people who identify as other but usually I get that schtick from straight people.

That's funny, because in my experience I get that "schtick" from people outside of the normal labels - ie not straight people. It's usually people who don't fit within the labels - be it gay, straight, bi, woman, man, whatever - that have adopted that particular philosophy.

Suppose it all just depends on who we surround ourselves with and our particular experiences.

Maybe I'm just being defensive but I've had to deal with too many straight people who think I shouldn't "rub my gayness" in their face and it should all be done behind closed doors. Ignoring the fact they can hold hands/kiss/introduce their significant other and no one acts like that's out of the norm but when I'm doing it it's flaunting.
