Pretty much. Though I'm surprised that Zutara/Kataang legions haven't cleanly split into the new ships.

That and the trend really seems to have become Makorra vs EVERY OTHER CONFLICTING SHIP.

it seems most of the zutarians are now makorrians instead. Which at least has some actual basis in the show, but it's more because they finally want their fire/water ship.

So I hope it fails, because they had the most delicious tears.

I feel like this is a stupid question, but where exactly is the fandom now? I haven't been able to locate much big discussion on LJ, and there seems to be a lot of activity on Tumblr, but to be honest I still don't quite get how to interact with Tumblr. :s

Honestly, I fear I can't tell you. I never was that active in it in the first place (because while I thought the shipping wars were amusing in small doses, it really just annoyed me in the long run). And since Korra - I only watch the series really and read some of the threads on Reddit, but it ain't much.

The Avatar series is one of the few I just can't ship anything in. I just want everyone to be buddies, I don't get why the creators just love shoehorning romance in so much :/

If the main ships being fussed over weren't so darn boring, I'd agree? Maybe it's because I find Mako incredibly uninteresting when he's not having brotherly times with Bolin, but I can't bother to care who is kissing who blarrgh. Mako/loneliness OTP. Five ever.

I wish I could ship Makorra, because I really don't dislike either character. Hell, I was actually starting to warm up to Mako! But the whole "OH BY THE WAY SHE LIKES MAKO" thing was a seriously terrible example of "tell don't show". There was just no build-up, at least not from what I saw.

At least with the last series' ships, there was some subtlety to the deal, and characters were given time to grow before pairings became a serious thing.

Yeah, that's kinda true.

Maybe I'm just hanging around in the right place, but wow, such a femslash welcoming fandom! Where I hang out, Korrasami is THE thing, and I love the shipping community. Most people are friendly and enthusiastic, but not meanspirited towards other characters.

I guess that's the advantage you have when you ship a pairing that will never ever be canon. Unfortunately.

I mean, getting rabid over ships is weak no matter what but even Zutara at least seemed -interesting- in some way even if there was no canon basis. The idea was at least interesting in some way. Zuko and Katara were pretty I guess and the real cause of the ship was being dubbed the fangirl surrogate (as in the fangirls only opportunity to self insert without mary-sueing for all of season 1) and oestrogen fan bait but heck at least Zuko and Katara were interesting people too and even endearing in some way. Korra is good too and interesting in her own way but Mako is so boring I think I might fall asleep when he's taking up any amount of screen time.

I don't think Mako is an awful person or anything like some people do- nor do I hate him but he's kind of like a combination of Mai and Katara yet without the kickass of both ladies or Katara's real warmth or Mai's snark. I mean the writers are trying to make him interesting but his traits feel tacked on, his feelings for Korra are told rather than shown. The voice acting for him is even boring and think contributes to the fact he doesn't feel real either. IDEK- I mean I guess the voices in LOK aren't as distinct as in ATLA but most of the other voices seem to have some sort of real personality all the same.

So I honestly have trouble shipping Makorra because almost every other Korra ship in existence is at least interesting in some way. It's obviously endgame though so eh, whatever that's what fic is for.

This. I didn't even ship Zutara, but I still found their interactions to be interesting. The forced Makorra moments just make me cringe.

Am I at another fandom? Why don't I see the ship wars? I mean yeah ATLA had huge ship wars, I remember that, I was there, the Zutara vs. Kataang was legendary, LOK has nothing on par with that. I mean there was real hate going on there, while now it seems everyone's just doing for the fun of it with no ill intent on other ships. There are some rare instances oh 'how can you ship this' but they are usually frowned upon and not that of a big deal.

IDK maybe I've been hanging around in the Tahno corner too much, having a ship with very very little chance of happening kind of makes the whole thing lighthearted.

This. I also don't see why some say all the Zutarians boarded the Makorra SS. Not true in my experience.

The most wank worthy things I've seen are Bolin/Korra shippers hating Korra/calling her a slut for not being interested in him and Makorra shippers hating Asami cause shes in the way (or Mako because he's leading Korra on).

Even the supposed Pema disliking is lukewarm. People usually give their reasons about why they're iffy about her and frankly, I secretly agree with some of them. I don't hate her though. It worked out for her and Tenzin and they have a ton of cute kids. She's the Angelina to Brad and Jennifer so to speak, lol.
