If LoK didn't invest so much in romance I would find LoK to be better than A:tLA.

Alas, it was not to be. Half of the initial charm LoK had is gone.

I seriously don't get people who take issue with the "overinvestment in romance" in LoK.

Yeah, episode 5 was obnoxious as fuck, but it's not like A:tLA didn't throw shippy shit at our faces all the damn time. This isn't a new thing for Bryke to be doin', here.

Yeah well, this series doesn't have many episodes to spare, so any time wasted on romance is taking away from the plot, even if it doesn't seem like that much time. And the plot needs all the help it can get, because I don't even think it knows where it's going.

Yeah, that. I'm really hoping it all makes sense as a coherent whole once we get to the end and can look back, but as of now, the plot doesn't seem very tightly constructed at all, and a whole episode dedicated to 1)shipping and 2)probending (ha, wrote brobending at first, which could be another name for the shipping =p) seems like...wasted story minutes. The season (and its story) is almost over, and no airbending yet, nor has Amon's big plan gone into effect which makes me worry it's going to be another hi-and-bye moment like Hiroshi Sato's loyalties being suspected, revealed, and him disappearing off-screen within a single episode. :( So little tiiiiiime.

I seriously find the romance off-putting. It throws me out of the story, and thus my enjoyment suffers because of it. What's there to get?

To you it may seem like it was only one episode, but I pick up on the love drama in every episode, and because it's a pet peeve I end up scrutinizing everything. A:tLA I could handle because the romance fit in nicely and there were 61 episodes so my mind could easily concentrate on other things if I became bored. LoK doesn't have that same luxury because of its shorter length.
To me LoK feels like a romance first, and the actual story has taken a back-seat; I'm biased and I'm probably exaggerating, but my pet peeve is what it is.
