I mean, THEY ONLY SAY IT IN THE OPENING SPEECH FOR BOTH SERIES.

(Anonymous) 2012-06-09 01:02 am (UTC)(link)We're 8 episodes in and none the wiser. With ATLA, you really knew where it was going. And the characters had meaningful arcs where they had to look deep into their heart and overcome their own fears and demons. Even the bad guys were not who they seemed to be.
Here....stuff just seems to happen randomly, every time it seems like the story is picking up pace we go to things like romance, or pro bending, or whatever the distraction du jour is - and all in all the characters are more shallow.
