One, my dad has it, so I grew up thinking bald men are awesome. He doesn't do a comb-over either; he clips his hair really short and just leaves the middle part bald. There's nothing wrong with it at all, and he had already lost most of his hair in the middle when my mother married him. She thinks he's very handsome. u_u
Two, the only thing about it that "bothers" me is that it makes guys look older than they are - but again, with the experience I've had, I'm able to step back and say "okay, he may be older, but he may just have male-pattern baldness." My current crush is only a year older than me, at 22, and he has it - his hair has come out only partially, but I suspect in five years or so it will be complete. And you know what? That's okay. I got used to it. It's not a big deal. (Note: there's nothing wrong with being older, but for me, I have a bit of a squick when it comes to me + men who are significantly older than me, so it did bug me a little.)
tl;dr: "male pattern baldness is unsexy as hell" is an opinion. You state it like a universally accepted fact. It's not.
(imo, wigs are ugly. but ymmv.)
