How would that have worked? The OP is wishing this fate on their mother, just like it happens in the film, not a male member of their family. The point of the secret is how their thoughts are parallel to the film. Brother Bear's bear spell was brought on by the main character while Brave's bear spell is very deliberately wished upon another character. Two very different stories you're talking about.
