Actually, I do tell them, more often than not. I educate, but I also get pissed off. I call people assholes when they act like assholes. I call bigots bigots. AND I tell them why.

But nobody wants to fucking hear it. I could write a goddamn dissertation on why someone is being a bigot and THEY WILL NOT LISTEN. All they'll do is write a one-line whine about how "omg you called me a naaaaame and got aaaangry you horrible person!"

Hey! I've got a brilliant idea for a "move" you could use! If they always respond with "you called me a naaaaaaame" why don't you take that option away from them by not calling them a name?? Whoo! Way to take the wind out of their sails! Who could have ever guessed that it might be more effective to educate people than to educate them while calling them assholes and bigots?! Common sense would certainly tell us that everyone's much more likely to listen when they're attacked first to soften them up!

If I don't "call them a name" (more like, "call them on their bigotry," since the most frequent "name-calling" I get accused of is saying things like, "homophobe" or "bigot" or "misogynist"), they find something else to pick at. This I know from experience. "You sound too angry!" (How dare a Good Minority Woman like me ever get angry at the institutionalized -isms and -phobias I have to live with every single day!) "You're condescending to me by educating me like I told you to!" "That block of text where you're educating me like I told you to, like everyone told you to, is too LONG!"

Bigots don't want to listen. They just call everyone who says shit to them an "SJW" and pretend that validates them cos clearly, those b*tches are just too uptight, and they haven't done anything wrong-- right?
