I adore Lacus because she actively tried to do something. She can't pilot a gundam, nor can she fire a gun, but she's quiet and powerful in her own way. Dignified as hell. I admire that. I hate that a strong female character has to act like a guy or something. Seriously, as far as I'm concerned, she kicks total ass.

Fllay on the other hand, represented everything I hate in a human being. I don't like her not because she's female, but because she's a manipulative, overly prejudiced, psychotic idiot.

Fllay is...special. I hadn't hated a character so much in a long time until she came around. I felt the same way--she was everything I hate in a person. Being female just means she falls into a stereotype. I'd hate her just as much as a guy.

Lacus did have quiet dignity and power, but I just...wasn't quite sure what to make of her, or her goals.

Because both she and her goals seemed to randomly change in the course of the anime, IMO. Lacus was a plot device.

And Flay was a bizarre mixture of powerless and psychotic.
