I was just reading about how Korra is a privileged bender and how she's a spoiled brat who doesn't know what it's like to be discriminated or something something, and how any good social justice supporter should take the side of the equalists or something. so now when I see this whole "Korra is a great character because she's a PoC lead!" I kinda get confused. are we suppose to like her for being PoC in OUR world or hate her for being privileged in HER world idk anymore

oh haha yeah I know, I wasn't being serious with my question. just trying to emphasize the confusion over different directions people seem to be pulling others in concerns of social justice in the show.

Agreed. She's pretty much the most privileged person in her world and is completely unaware of this privilege. This makes calling her a POC and lauding this particularly ironic.

I don't mind that she's privileged. She's the motherfucking Avatar. But the problem is that she can't see Amon's side as reasonable, can't sympathize with non-benders, and has no qualms about using bending against non-benders.

Are you confusing her with Tarrlok somehow or did you miss the part in "When Extremes Meet" when she defends non-bender protestors against the Task Force and the metalbending police?

(Also, I'm pretty sure the POC/COC thing is meant primarily on a metatextual rather than in-universe level, but that's been said elsewhere so I'm mostly just WTFing at the level of alternative character interpretation going on here.)
