I wish more people had this attitude towards black cats. My neighborhood was at one point overrun by black cats, and I've taken in three over the years (including one female who was so pretty and talked so much you really would think she was about to tell you you were a Senshi -- damn but I miss her). Every Halloween I get terrified some of the neighbor kids are going to catch my remaining black cat and torture him or something. (I'm in the US where they're considered unlucky.)

Anyway, this is a sweet and adorable secret. And I should tell you that you should consider getting a black cat if you ever want a pet. They aren't likely to be adopted because of their color, and they are the sweetest cats I have ever known. And you can name yours Luna. :D

what is it about talky black cats? I grew up with Siamese cats, but the all-black Domestic Shorthair I have now could give them a run for their money when it comes to vocalizing. He is also the most affectionate cat ever.

Agreed! Mine is half Burmese, half... not sure, some generic tabby, but she is so chatty and affectionate and cuddly.

She's also the prettiest of all our cats - gorgeous silky black fur and huge gold-green eyes. She could be a show cat, seriously.

OP, black cats are adorable :) Consider adopting one!

I've never heard anyone say black cats are unlucky in any sort of serious sense, only when people are joking around about ladders and broken mirrors.

The only reason black cats are unlucky is because it's easier to trip over the little buggers in the dark.

Seconding the anon above me--if you ever feel like adopting a cat, black cats are the way to go. They often get left at the shelters.

I wanted this too. It honestly depressed me that it never happened. I have a black and white cat now, and me and my roomies joke about teaching her how to do flips and make magical items fall out of her butt.

Let me just join the crowd of black cat lovers! I think they're the handsomest cats of all. I've got three black cats right now: two adopted, one foundling. I volunteered for awhile with a local humane society, and it's true that black cats (and dogs) are almost invariably the last to be adopted, but the dozens I worked with also consistently had some of the best temperaments of the entire cat population there.
