I have to admit to being very confused when I surfed Thor or Avengers fan fiction and saw so many pairings containing Darcy. It made me scratch my head. I can't quite wrap my head around her character's appeal, but to each his/her own, I guess.

tbh while looking through Avengers fic I've been surprised to see multiple Bruce/Darcy things out there.

Yeah that took me by surprise. Not to mention, I've seen quite a few Clint/Darcy and Loki/Darcy ones too. I've been around fandoms long enough to understand pairings need no logic or even interaction between the characters involved, but her involvement really baffles me for some reason.

Clint/Darcy was kind of weird. I kind of expected Loki/Darcy, tbh, because that could definitely be a ship for people who want a Het ship that didn't feature an OC, but it doesn't make that much sense.

And I can hardly talk about pairings with limited interaction (one of my current OTPs is like that) but people really like Darcy... my guess is that she's an unattached female character so people can basically put her in their het ships without breaking off any canon relationships.

I've also shipped characters with bare minimum interaction, so I'm not really taking issue with that either.

That's what I assumed once I gave it any thought. My problem is I just find her character annoying, so I don't get the massive love I've seen for her. But oh well...live and let live, right? :)

I think she functions kind of like an OC, without the fandom stigma of being an actual OC.

I started reading that pairing thanks to someone reccing a fic in one of my comms. Honestly, I was all "meh" when I started to read it, but when I finished that fic I was "wow, it actually can work!" I was surprised to find lots of quite good fic with that pairing ( the fandom in AO3 is just amazing, and now it's one of my OTPs. :)

I like Darcy because, yeah, she may seem pretty self-insert, but that's what she is in canon, too. And sometimes that's fun.

And I ship Clint/Darcy because a) Jeremy Renner is a hotass, b) Darcy is cute(to me), and c) there are not enough ~happy~ het fics in the Marvel Movie Verse. Clint/Natasha is my hot-headboard-banging-emotional-issues-out-the-wazzo ship, and Clint/Darcy is my awwww-so-cute-fluffy ship.

This has pretty much been my happy place for the past week or so. It's happy fic with good structure and writing for the most part, and enjoyable to read.

If we fans are projecting, I am a-okay with that, as long as the output is good.

I think I mentioned somewhere up-thread, that once I actually set my dislike for her character aside I can puzzle out why people like to use her: Females in the Marvel Movie verse are limited and she's mostly a blank slate, so writers can take her in all sorts of directions without completely derailing her characterization I guess.

I personally, don't like anything about her, so right off, it confused me a bit. (I find her more annoying than interesting.) But more power to all the fans that have a fun time using/writing her. I'll just continue to pass her by :)

I can totally see why people don't like her; her characterization tends to be the kind that makes you love her or find her absolutely annoying. *shrugs* I don't know why she's so popular, but I guess that might explain it. I'm just surprised that fandom is so willing to use a woman, even if she is blank-slate-able.

Yes to this! I almost never read het, but Clint/Darcy is one i *will* read - they're pretty much guaranteed to be fun, funny, sexy, snarky, and light on the angst.
