There is too much crap on FF.N to go through the main archive usually. I tend to find one or two authors I like and than go through their favorite lists. Continue until the fic runs out. I've attempted to read far too many fics with high review counts that were in fact terrible to use reviews as a measure of quality. Besides it's better, imho, to find someone who has the same tastes as you to get recommendations from.
