That's not elitist, that's just how things work. Obviously you can't over generalize and say X fandom has all awesome writers and B fandom has all suck writers. But it's true that some fandoms have a larger percentage of high quality writers than others.

All of this! I've found that the larger the fandom, the more talented writers there are.

That's just the law of averages, though. The bigger any group is, the more diverse its members will be across everything, including writing skill. There are larger numbers of awful writers in larger fandoms, too. Other than that, I agree with you, though. It's easier to find good fic in big fandoms.

not true. not true at all...believe me, i've been in enough fandoms to know.

Er, no.

Depends to a huge extent on the quality of the source material.

to a small extent this is true, but actually i think it rather has to do with the age group the source material appeals to. the older the audience, the better the fic.

This! If somebody said all the writers in one of my favorite fandoms stunk, I'd be upset. But... yeah most of them are pretty bad. X_x (Icon not related.)

I have come across cute comment fic related to your icon, but haven't gone looking for other fic in that fandom myself. ;)

I'm pretty new to P+F fandom so I've just started to dig into the fic, but so far there's a fair share of good stuff, especially brotherly friendship fluff.

I think it's pretty proportional to the average age of the fandom, tbh. Like, every fandom has good writers and bad writers, but the fandoms with a larger percentage of young writers will tend to have a larger percentage of bad fic, at least in my experience.
