Hey, it's been a while!

A friend of mine mentioned the other day that one function which seems less supported in DW comments than it was in Livejournal is Rich Text commenting. I'd never really used it myself, but I get that making the switch to Dreamwidth might be a problem there for people who are more used to Livejournal in that sense. Also, there are a few html commands in Dreamwidth that are different from those in Livejournal, and I'll cover that too.

As such, the basic point to this tutorial is to provide a quick and dirty guide to HTML for Dreamwidth purposes that should cover most everything you need to do normally. Nothing too fancy here, just straightforward stuff.

If anyone's got questions, just leave a comment! I know I didn't go into very much, and a lot of this should be fairly common knowledge already, but it might not be for everyone.

Also, if you're interested in any of my other tutorials, I've got a master list here! So far, I've covered changing the default site style, getting into roleplaying, marking 'new' comments in a post, using LJ juggler or LJ login for managing multiple accounts, as well as getting and claiming your OpenID and uploading icons onto it.

(Quick and unrelated note! For people who are using Firefox or Chrome, check SpeedyFox out. It's meant to improve the speed and functionality of your browser. It seems to work okay for me- I haven't noticed a drastic improvement, but it doesn't seem slower or anything, and other people who use it have reported really good boosts in performance, so it might be worth a try.)

I agree. Majorly overdone trope, and it doesn't appeal to me at all. In fact, I'm not even a big fan of banter, since it usually seems like (mild) teasing to me, and if I were in a relationship, I'd at least want the person to know when to stop and not keep arguing/teasing me just to laugh at me when it makes me mad or feel like they've "defeated" me because I want it to stop.

On second thought, even X-Men: First Class is better than what's happened under the X-Men label since the 80s.

You don't seem like a bad person or anything, but really? Women are people, and female characters should be held to the same standards as male ones. Perhaps female characters don't get as many interesting/necessary roles and plots as the male ones do in some shows, and it's up to you whether that changes how you interpret those characters. But you don't have to like a character just because she's female, and if you're having to try to be positive about them just because they're women... either that show really sucks at writing women and you don't want to look like a sexist, or you're doing your best to overcome a sexism problem you've got. If it's the latter, that's great, keep on keeping on, but if it's the former... you don't have to feel a way you don't feel just to not be a sexist.

Am I the only one slightly creeped out by this?

tbh water parts in video games where you have to swim underwater and there's a chance your character will drown if you don't do it fast enough always make me uneasy. I hate seeing video game characters drown.

That's not elitist, that's just how things work. Obviously you can't over generalize and say X fandom has all awesome writers and B fandom has all suck writers. But it's true that some fandoms have a larger percentage of high quality writers than others.

Are you hoping that she'd follow you into whatever new fandom you are in? Yeah, it just doesn't work that way.

You can't know how much pleasure your friend is getting out of that fandom. Adoration is lovely, but sometimes when we know we are talking with someone who is done with a fandom, we play up the stink talk. She might not be as done as you are with the drama etc.

Meanwhile, you want some adoration of your own? It's time to buckle down and work on making something awesome. If you had it in you in that fandom, you have it in you in whatever fandom is now eating your brains.

Oh my gosh, is gen fic protected by a Fidelius Charm or something?!? No matter how many times the gen fans say they exist, they remain hidden from fandom at large unless the Secret-Keeper lets everyone know they exist. I mean, yes, there's less gen fanfiction, but it's not impossible, or even that hard, to find thanks to the wonders of the Google Machine. That won't necessarily mean you'll enjoy fanfic, but you've got to be the third or fourth person in the past few weeks going on about how ~*WEIRD*~ it is not to like shipping. Well, it's not weird, okay? It's normal. Lots of people don't ship much.

I really think Chris Evans was miscast. He made a much better Johnny Storm than Steve Rogers/Captain America. I'm a total Steve/Tony shipper and I was so distracted by my disappointment in just Cap that it took me a couple days before I even started thinking about their chemistry (which I agree was lacking).

I liked both. I think Dan's version just took adjusting to after I watched the original move so many times, but I also loved the tv show and Dan is an amazingly funny voice actor so it's hard to be disappointed that he was also the genie.
