Preferring the movies over the comics usually means you have a sense of taste.

With the possible exception of X-Men: First Class...

On second thought, even X-Men: First Class is better than what's happened under the X-Men label since the 80s.

I have a sense of taste. I also have a sense of sight, hearing, smell, and touch. I also prefer the comics over a lot of movies. Not all, but mostly.

Agreed. I'm not saying that comics are bad, but some of the Marvel universes were so spectacularly shitty that there's something to be said for mediocre consistency.

Also, the movies are generally more accessible to people who haven't lived and breathed comics their entire lives, and that's never a bad thing.

Ugh. Sadly true, at least recently.

Also, comics and movies are completely different mediums. One's a series of short installments of pictures with word balloons telling a story with no planned ending that can continue for decades. The other is a filmed story that needs to have three acts, establish its characters, and wrap up in 2-3 hours.

Absolutely. I don't read the comics because I have a hard time getting into the medium, but how comics are written and paced seems to be very different from a movie, just because of how they have to tell things with pictures, word ballones, and how comics (especially superhero comics) are paced to try and make them last. Even though now superhero movies are pretty much made into franchises, almost every movie has to have a satisfying end in some way.

Wow. Way to be elitist in the other direction. =/

It could also mean you haven't read the good comics. I love the movies but I also love the comics, even if I don't love every storyline or issue or universe.

Also they are totally different mediums.

I have, but I get tired of trying to figure out which of the Grey/Summers brats are in continuity, discovering that little things like character development get thrown out the window with each new creative team, favorite characters killed, tortured, sidelined, or written out of continuity because who the fuck cares about them if they don't have a movie franchise, titles going into development hell while they roll out yet another Wolverine/Batman title, and all of the above happening simultaneously during the big "events" that demand I triple the size of my pull box just to figure out what the fuck is going on.

I still collect trade paperbacks now and then. But DC and Marvel editorial can go play in traffic as far as I'm concerned.
