Okay let me edit my comment with some qualifiers I thought would be assumed:

And I think what often it comes down to is lazy writing. For a lot of people it's so much easier to write exciting conflict and fighting than it is to write an exciting and engaging happily married couple. Marshal/Lily and Zoe/Wash are awesome examples (if only Joss didn't crap out in the end) of how to do it right. Sadly, most people seem to think once you're married your life just isn't a story worth listening to.

Very well said. There's a reason so many love stories end with the ~Happily Ever After~... there's the assumption that no one cares about what comes next.
