Are you hoping that she'd follow you into whatever new fandom you are in? Yeah, it just doesn't work that way.

You can't know how much pleasure your friend is getting out of that fandom. Adoration is lovely, but sometimes when we know we are talking with someone who is done with a fandom, we play up the stink talk. She might not be as done as you are with the drama etc.

Meanwhile, you want some adoration of your own? It's time to buckle down and work on making something awesome. If you had it in you in that fandom, you have it in you in whatever fandom is now eating your brains.

judging by your last point im gonna guess youre not in kpop fandom. while i agree t o some extent on your first two points, id like to say that in kfandom, BNFs are not the typical kind of bnfs. you can be incredibly popular among the general fans of one group, or you can be incredibly popular among the small number of elitist fans. im more interested on who OP is referring to as a her bnf friend. girl group fandoms are ridiculously tiny , so op all but gave her friend/herself away as it wouldnt be difficult to figure out who shes talking about.

Being popular among your own little clique of friends does not a BNF make. :/

I wouldn't know who she is because honestly I don't care.

nayrt but you really aren't in kpop fandom, are you? bnfs works differently there, but they're still bnfs. i think you can trust me on this as i've been in animanga and western (movies, tv-series, rpf) fandoms before kpop. what the other anon said about bnfs makes total sense to me, because yeah, if you're approved by one/some of the cliques then you are de facto a bnf in the sense that you are read and people will discuss your fic. you are also more likely to be considered to write good fic, which increases your readership only by knowing that you've been approved by a certain set of writers. however the bnfs don't all know each other (sometimes not even within the perceived clique!) mainly because there are different cliques for different groups' fandoms and as such kpop ficdom is at the moment very scattered. so if your niche is in girl group(s) it is even more likely to be a bnf without being it in the proper sense according to how one looks at it through the perspective of a western fandom.

My friend leans more one specific group, but I won't specify which since I think I'd give it away, but it's not T-ara (I used their photo because I like some of their songs =) ). She knows what's going on with general kpop too since she and another friend of ours are really into kpop.

Are you hoping that she'd follow you into whatever new fandom you are in?

Um...what? Maybe I should have been more specific? I'm not in any fandom anymore. She and I met at Fandom A, became friends, and became BNFs there. Once that fandom died she and I were still talking to each other since we consider each other genuine friends. Another friend of ours kind of nudged us toward the kpop fandom, and at first I had fun with my friends talking about kpop, but after awhile I couldn't handle keeping up with the various new groups that seemed to come out every six months, not to mention the crazy general drama. I kind of went off and lived my boring life. I can't really keep myself active in any fandom anymore. I'm not saying that I want the attention my friend gets in whatever fandom I want to get into. I'm just generally remorseful that if I had put more effort into being active, chances are, I would still at least be having fun with her in a fandom. Instead she and I just talk about RL issues and events with a few drops of her fandom and our old fandom on Facebook/Twitter.
