TBH I always find people who cosplay as characters they greatly resemble a little bit of a cop out. Most of the best cosplayers I've seen sell it personality wise and it's always more impressive when you can feel the character come out of an opposite gendered, opposite race cosplayer. But if you're a newbie or not really confident in your characterization I can see why you'd want to fall back on physical resemblance.

...Okay, this is one thing that I honestly have had putting me off cosplay but...How is it a cop out if they like the character/the characters costume/etc? Since when does cosplay *have* to also be roleplay? And, mostly, who cares about the whys and hows of someone else's cosplay as long as they aren't being offensive [by the local culture's standards] and they're having fun?

I'm sorry if that seems rude but well...It seems like every cosplayer I've met uses *something* to look down on other cosplayers, be it using 'cop outs' or the other person having a 'shitty cosplay' etc.

I think I worded that badly. I was specifically referring to people who had little to no knowledge of their characters and had found them and cosplayed them based on just how they looked. I've met a few cosplayers who couldn't even pronounce their character's name or didn't even know the name of the source material. I have no problem with bad cosplay if it's done for fun and love of the character.
