I always considered my fic shippy, as there is some sort of pairing in it, until one of my regular readers told me I write 'genfic with a hint of a pairing', which is okay by me.

I certainly have a hard time writing shippy stuff in general, though I'm fond of pairings, and usually have those characters I like interacting a lot in my stories, but my stories usually get their "Teen and above" ratings due to violence.

Different people define gen differently. For some, it means no romance or pairings whatsoever while for others it means that romance isn't the focus or doesn't show up very often.
